Access Point & Venue Coverage Estimator
Calculate the number of wireless access points, switches, and PoE budget needed for your venue.
1. Venue area size
2. Structural layout walls
Select the wall material that best represents your layout.
3. Expected user density
Estimate the maximum density of active client devices.
Approximately 1 device per 50 square feet.
4. Network traffic usage
Select the network activity profile for connected clients.
Based on your area size (5000 sq ft) and coverage limit, we calculated a requirement of 3 APs for signal propagation. Accounting for high density capacity (100 concurrent devices at 5 Mbps each), we need 3 APs. The final design recommends 3 APs.

Understanding signal attenuation and capacity limits
Wireless networks are constrained by both physical coverage and client capacity. In large open spaces, a single high-power access point can project a signal over a wide radius, but a high concentration of users (such as in auditoriums or restaurants) will saturate the AP’s radio channels before coverage is lost. This tool calculates both metrics and recommends the higher AP count to prevent network congestion.
Accurate Network Capacity Planning
Planning wireless coverage requires modeling physical obstructions, user density, and application bandwidth needs. This calculator helps estimate the equipment needed for a high-performance guest or enterprise network.
Key Parameters Modeled
- Signal attenuation through drywall, brick, glass, and concrete walls.
- Device density limits for standard office, high-density hospitality, and stadium environments.
- Total Power over Ethernet (PoE) power budgets and switch port requirements.
