The gap

Your berth holders pay for a home on the water. The WiFi treats them like strangers.

A marina is part residential estate, part visitor destination and part working harbor, often all on one network. Berth holders live aboard for weeks, visiting crews arrive for a night, the café fills at the weekend and staff need the same network for the fuel berth and the office. That gap usually shows up in four places.

A typical marina today

  • One harbor password, printed on the shower block door and shared with every boat
  • Berth holders’ laptops, TVs and chartplotters visible to every other boat on the pontoon
  • Visiting boaters who connect, leave and are never heard from again
  • Staff tablets, cameras and the fuel berth till on the same network as the guests

With Purple

  • Every berth holder gets a private key of their own, so there is no shared password to leak
  • Each berth sits in its own Private Area Network, its devices visible only to that boat
  • Visiting crews sign in once and land in your CRM with CCPA/CPRA consent recorded
  • Staff sign in with their work account and every device gets its own key and VLAN
One platform, four networks

Everyone and everything in the harbor, each on the right network

Four networks that would normally mean four suppliers, run from one dashboard by the marina team you already have.

Berth holders

Their boat, their network, from the first night aboard

Annual berth holders and liveaboards treat the boat as a second home, with a laptop, a smart TV, speakers and the onboard systems all wanting to connect. Purple gives every berth its own Private Area Network on iPSK, so their devices join once, find each other and stay invisible to every other boat in the marina.

  • One private key per berth, with no cap on the devices that use it
  • Smart TVs and speakers discoverable only inside that boat’s private network bubble
  • Keys expire or revoke one at a time when a berth contract ends, with nothing to change for anyone else
  • Works under your vendor’s name: iPSK on Cisco, DPSK on Ruckus, MPSK on HPE Aruba and Juniper Mist, PPSK on Extreme and UniFi

A key can be bound to the first device that uses it, so a password passed along the pontoon does not let another boat onto the berth holder’s network.

Visiting boaters

Turn a night on the visitor pontoon into a return booking

Visiting crews arrive tired, need the forecast, and want to tell family they are safe. That is the receptive moment. Purple greets them with a branded sign-in moment on the phone they are already holding, records CCPA/CPRA consent with a full audit trail, and sends the details to the systems your marketing team already uses.

  • Branded captive portal with social and email sign-in
  • Consented contacts sent to your CRM through 400+ data connectors
  • Passpoint profiles so returning crews connect automatically, encrypted from the moment they join
  • DNS content filtering on the guest network for families aboard

Café, events and regattas

Know who comes to the waterfront, and bring them back

Walkers, diners, boat show visitors and regatta crowds come to the marina without ever renting a berth. Guest WiFi in the café, bar, chandlery and event spaces turns those visits into first-party data you own, so the next open day, boat jumble or race week has an audience waiting.

  • Sign-in pages that change for each event, with a slot for sponsors
  • Visitor numbers, repeat visits and dwell time for the café and events team
  • Permission-based data, ready for your email and CRM platforms
  • Kept entirely separate from berth holder and staff networks

Staff and devices

One login for the harbor office, the fuel berth and the boatyard

Marina staff move between the office, the pontoons, the fuel berth and the boatyard, and the harbor runs on kit that cannot type a password: cameras, door controllers, EPOS tills and sensors. Staff sign in with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Google Workspace, and every device gets a key of its own.

  • Seasonal staff gain access when their account is created and lose it when it is disabled
  • Cameras, door controllers, tills and sensors each on their own key and VLAN
  • Time-limited keys for contractors and boatyard engineers, with no MDM needed
  • Every staff session logged against a named person, device, time and location

Built for a marina team

Run four networks with the harbor team you already have

Marina teams look after berths, fuel, moorings, events and the café long before they look after a network. Purple takes the WiFi off their list and hands the commercial team a guest list it can use.

How it works

Live without new hardware

  1. 1

Point your access points at Purple

We configure the berth holder, visitor, café and staff networks on the access points you already own across the marina.

  2. 2

Issue berth keys and connect your systems

Each berth gets its private key, staff sync from Entra ID or Google Workspace, and guest sign-ups flow to your CRM.

  3. 3

    Switch on, network by network

Roll out one network at a time with our onboarding team, starting wherever the pain is greatest, often before the season starts.

Marina WiFi questions, answered

What marina managers and harbor teams ask us most

Do we need to replace our access points?

No. Purple runs on the access points you already own, including Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Ruckus, Juniper Mist, Ubiquiti UniFi, Cambium, Extreme and Fortinet. There is no on-premise RADIUS server to install in the harbor office.

How do berth holders get their own private network?

Each berth gets its own key using iPSK, which your access points support under their own name (iPSK, DPSK, MPSK or PPSK). Every device that uses that key lands in the berth’s own Private Area Network, so laptops, TVs and speakers find each other but stay invisible to other boats.

What happens when a berth holder leaves or a contract ends?

Keys expire or revoke one at a time. You switch off that berth’s key and nobody else is affected, with no shared password to change across the marina.

How many devices can a boat connect?

There is no cap on devices per key and no per-device license. Purple is licensed per access point and per venue.

Can we stay in touch with visiting boaters?

Yes. The branded sign-in captures CCPA/CPRA consent with a full audit trail, and contacts can be sent to your CRM or email platform through 400+ data connectors. Returning crews can connect automatically with Passpoint.

Can staff and harbor devices share the network safely?

Staff sign in with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Google Workspace, and access ends when their account is disabled. Cameras, door controllers, tills and sensors each get their own key and VLAN, kept apart from berth holders and guests.

Where is our data held?

Purple has RADIUS regions in the US, EU, and UK, is ISO 27001 certified and CCPA/CPRA compliant, and has had zero data breaches since 2012.
