WiFi for parks, squares, waterfronts and outdoor events

Find out who uses your public spaces, and what they think of them

  • Event and sponsor sign-in pages

The gap

You know how many bins you empty. You do not know who came.

Parks, town squares and waterfronts have no tills and no ticket gates, so the people who use them are invisible until something goes wrong. Free WiFi is often already there, paid for and switched on, and telling you almost nothing. That gap usually shows up in four places.

A typical public space today

  • An open network with no sign-in, no consent and no idea who connected
  • Visitor surveys done on clipboards, a few hundred answers a year
  • Events promoted on posters, with no way to reach last year’s crowd
  • Ticket machines, CCTV and kiosks sharing one password with the public

With Purple

  • A branded sign-in page with UK GDPR consent and a full audit trail
  • A one-question survey at sign-in: City of Avondale got a 92% response rate
  • Opted-in visitors you can invite back, and sign-in pages that switch on for each event
  • Every device on its own key and VLAN, kept apart from the public network
One platform, four jobs

Everything your public WiFi should be doing

Four outcomes that usually mean four suppliers, run from one dashboard by the parks, events or town centre team you already have.

Visitors

Free public WiFi that knows its visitors

People sit in parks, wait in squares and walk the waterfront with a phone in hand. Purple turns that free WiFi into a branded sign-in moment: your welcome, your consent wording, and a record of who is in your space. Newcastle City Council’s public WiFi has a 96% repeat-visitor rate.

  • Branded captive portal with email, social or one-click sign-in and UK GDPR consent with a full audit trail
  • Repeat visits, dwell time and busy hours for each space, ready for your parks and town centre teams
  • DNS content filtering keeps the public network suitable for families
  • Returning visitors can connect automatically with Passpoint and OpenRoaming, across more than 5 million hotspots worldwide

Visitor insight

Ask the people in your park what they think

Paper surveys and consultation portals hear from the same few voices. A one-question micro survey inside the WiFi sign-in hears from whoever is actually there. City of Avondale in Arizona asked visitors how much they liked the park and got 533 answers with a 92% response rate. Go Forth Stirling gathered 2,747 answers in six months on why visitors choose where to park.

  • Star ratings, multiple choice or free text, added to the sign-in in minutes
  • Logic Flow shows different questions by location, date or language
  • Answers sit beside visit data, so you can see who said what, and when
  • Results ready for committee reports, funding bids and park masterplans

Glasgow Life runs a council-written micro survey in its WiFi sign-in to hear from a wider pool of people before planning local events and initiatives.

Events and sponsors

Bring them back for the next event, and give sponsors a screen

Markets, food festivals, open-air cinema and summer concerts draw crowds that leave no trace. Purple puts each event on its own sign-in page, invites opted-in visitors back and gives sponsors a measurable place to be seen. A prize draw on the sign-in page lifted logins 36% at Woking Borough Council’s food and drink festival weekend, year on year. At Battersea Power Station, 1% of WiFi visitors went on to book tickets for a promoted event.

  • Event sign-in pages scheduled to switch on and off by date with Logic Flow
  • Opted-in visitors sent to your CRM or mailing list through 400+ data connectors
  • A sponsor-branded sign-in page with views and click-throughs reported back
  • Links straight to ticketing, the events programme or your app

Operations

A private key for everything outdoors that cannot sign in

Pay-and-display machines, CCTV, digital kiosks, water features, event tills and staff tablets all need the network, and none of them can type a password. xPSK gives each one its own key and VLAN, so a key shared with a market trader or an event contractor affects one device, not the whole estate.

  • Revoke one key without re-keying every device in the park
  • Time-limited keys for traders, caterers and event production crews
  • Works under your vendor’s name: iPSK on Cisco, DPSK on Ruckus, MPSK on HPE Aruba and Juniper Mist, PPSK on Extreme and UniFi
  • No per-device licence and no cap on devices per key

Outdoor WiFi questions, answered

What parks, events and town centre teams ask us most

Do we need new access points?

No. Purple runs on the outdoor and indoor access points you already own, including Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Ruckus, Juniper Mist, Ubiquiti UniFi, Cambium, Extreme and Fortinet. Purple is not a hardware supplier, so if you need new coverage your network partner designs it and Purple runs on top.

What do visitors see when they connect?

A branded sign-in page with your wording and consent options. They can sign in with email, a social account or one click, and returning visitors can connect automatically with Passpoint and OpenRoaming.

How do the visitor surveys work?

You add a short question to the sign-in, such as a star rating for the park or a reason for visiting. Logic Flow can change the question by location, date or language. City of Avondale got a 92% response rate from 533 visitors.

Can sponsors pay for the WiFi?

Yes. A sponsor can own the sign-in page for an event or a season, with views and click-throughs reported back. A single headline sponsor held the sign-in page at the Tryon equestrian centre for 12 months.

Is it safe for families?

DNS content filtering is available on the public network, and devices such as cameras and ticket machines sit on their own keys and VLANs, away from visitors.

How do ticket machines, cameras and kiosks connect?

With xPSK. Each device gets its own key and VLAN, bound to the first device that uses it. You can issue time-limited keys to traders and event crews and revoke any one without touching the rest.

Where is visitor data held?

Purple is ISO 27001 certified, UK GDPR and CCPA compliant, has RADIUS regions in the UK, EU and US, and has had zero data breaches since 2012. Every sign-in carries a consent record with a full audit trail.
