Aruba Instant On access points connect to Purple using external captive portal redirection and RADIUS authentication. In the Aruba Instant On portal or mobile application, administrators configure the guest SSID to point to Purple cloud RADIUS servers (ports 1812 and 1813) and designate Purple splash page URLs, allowing visitors to authenticate and accept terms before gaining internet access.

All current Aruba Instant On Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi 6E indoor and outdoor access points support external captive portal redirection with Purple, including the AP11, AP11D, AP12, AP15, AP17 (outdoor), AP22, AP25, and AP32 models.

To configure AAA authentication, add Purple primary and secondary RADIUS server IP addresses into the Aruba Instant On RADIUS server profiles. Set authentication to port 1812, accounting to port 1813, input your dedicated shared secret key, and enable RADIUS accounting so Purple can track session durations, bandwidth consumption, and return visitor metrics in real time.

Administrators must add Purple hostnames (*.purple.ai and asset CDNs) to the allowed destination list (walled garden) in Aruba Instant On. If social login or single sign-on is enabled, OAuth authentication domains for Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook must also be added to ensure unauthenticated devices can complete the login journey.

While Aruba Instant On provides reliable wireless connectivity and traffic segmentation, Purple adds enterprise marketing tools, including branded splash pages, GDPR/TCPA-compliant contact capture, real-time footfall dwell analytics, automated review prompts, and webhooks to synchronize guest profiles with CRMs and marketing platforms.
