What this measures
The test transfers data between your browser and Purple's server and times it to derive download and upload throughput in megabits per second. It is a quick sanity check for a venue connection or a guest network. Because the server sits in a single region, treat the numbers as indicative rather than a substitute for a dedicated, multi-server benchmark.
For a fair test
- Close other downloads, streams, and large uploads first.
- Test on the band you care about, and run it a few times.
- Compare wired and wireless to isolate WiFi from the WAN link.
