WiFi for airline lounges and ground operations

Make every lounge visit count for your loyalty programme

A branded lounge sign-in that grows your loyalty programme, questions passengers actually answer, single sign-on for crew and ground staff, and a private key for every device on the ground. One platform, on the access points already in your lounges, crew rooms and offices.

  • Branded lounge sign-in
  • Loyalty questions at sign-in
  • Microsoft Entra ID and Okta for crew
  • xPSK for ground devices

The gap

Your lounge is your loyalty programme in physical form. Its WiFi is usually a password on a card.

Lounge guests sit with a phone in hand while they wait to board, and the WiFi is the first screen every one of them sees. Behind the scenes, crew, ground staff and hundreds of devices share the same estate. Most airlines treat all of it as plumbing. That gap usually shows up in four places.

A typical airline ground estate today

  • A lounge WiFi password on a card at reception, and nothing learned about who used it
  • Loyalty sign-ups left to a leaflet on the bar
  • Crew and ground staff sharing one key that still works after they leave
  • Lounge tills, printers, displays and handheld scanners on one flat network

With Purple

  • A sign-in page in your brand, with UK GDPR consent recorded for every lounge guest
  • One optional question at sign-in. Palm Beach International Airport asked about airline loyalty membership and had 112,451 answers in two months
  • Crew and ground staff sign in with their own Entra ID, Okta or Google Workspace account, revoked when they leave
  • Every device its own key and VLAN, revocable one at a time
One platform, four networks

Every lounge guest, crew member and device on the ground, each on the right network

Lounge WiFi, loyalty insight, crew access and device security would normally mean four suppliers. Purple runs them from one dashboard for your loyalty, customer experience and IT teams.

Lounge guests

A lounge sign-in that feels like part of the lounge

Members, day-pass guests and partner-airline passengers all reach for the WiFi before they reach for a drink. Purple gives them a branded sign-in in your colours and turns that moment into consented records your loyalty team can use. HSBC runs this play in its sponsored Premier Lounge at Mexico City airport, where it collected 2.6k survey responses on its travel insurance in a single month, with a 100% response rate and a return of $140,400 MXN.

  • LogicFlow shows each guest the next step that fits their answers, as HSBC’s Premier Lounge does with its insurance offers
  • UK GDPR consent with a full audit trail, and email addresses checked in real time
  • Consented records sent to Salesforce, HubSpot, Braze, Airship or Iterable through 400+ data connectors
  • Passpoint and OpenRoaming connect returning frequent flyers automatically, encrypted from association

Purple Shield DNS filtering keeps harmful content off guest networks. It blocks 1.6 million requests a month on Manchester Airport Group’s guest WiFi.

Loyalty and passenger insight

Find out who your passengers are, in their own words

Clipboard surveys and post-flight emails reach a fraction of your passengers. One optional question at WiFi sign-in reaches everyone who connects. Palm Beach International Airport added a single question asking passengers which airline loyalty programmes they belong to, and collected 112,451 answers in its first two months. Brussels South Charleroi Airport asked where passengers wanted to fly next and took 89,845 answers, an 86% response rate, to its airline partners.

  • Progressive profiling: ask about loyalty membership, trip purpose or the lounge itself, one question per visit
  • Show a question only at chosen locations or between set dates, as Manchester Airport Group does for departures at each of its airports
  • Questions shown in English, French or Dutch automatically, as Charleroi does
  • Answers kept with the rest of your feedback. Swissport sends WiFi sign-ins to its Reputation.com survey, so every response lands in one place

Brussels South Charleroi Airport puts the saving from its WiFi surveys at €2,695,350 against traditional survey methods.

Crew and ground staff

Crew and ground staff sign in with the account they already have

Crew rooms, report centres, engineering hangars and airport offices are full of people who come and go: new joiners, seasonal ground staff, contractors and crew from other bases. Purple syncs with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace and JumpCloud over SCIM, and group membership decides which network and policy each person gets. There is no shared password on the crew room wall.

  • Leavers are revoked automatically when their account is disabled, and Entra ID Conditional Access is honoured on every join
  • Crew, ground handlers, engineers and office staff land on separate VLANs with their own rules
  • Company iPads and laptops get EAP-TLS certificates through Intune, Jamf, Kandji or Hexnode
  • Time-limited keys for contractors and visiting crew, with no MDM required

Every session is logged against a named person, device, time and location, so a security or audit question always has an answer.

Ground devices

A private key for everything on the ground that cannot sign in

Boarding pass and bag-tag printers, lounge tills, flight information displays, cameras and door controllers cannot type a username and password. xPSK gives each one its own key and its own VLAN, so a leaked key affects one device, not the whole estate.

  • Revoke a single key without re-keying every device
  • MAC binding ties each key to the first device that uses it
  • Works under your vendor’s name: iPSK on Cisco, DPSK on Ruckus, MPSK on HPE Aruba and Juniper Mist, PPSK on Extreme and UniFi
  • No per-device licence and no cap on devices per key

Airline WiFi questions, answered

What airline loyalty, customer experience and IT teams ask us most

Do you provide inflight WiFi?

No. Purple does not supply the internet connection on board, or anywhere else. We run on the ground, on the access points in your lounges, crew rooms, offices and hangars, and our role starts where the internet connection reaches those access points.

Do we need to replace our access points?

No. Purple runs on the access points you already own, including Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Ruckus, Juniper Mist, Ubiquiti UniFi, Cambium, Extreme and Fortinet. There is no on-premise RADIUS server to install.

Our lounges are run by a lounge operator or sit on the airport’s network. Does that matter?

No. Purple is hardware agnostic and layers on top of existing infrastructure, so it works wherever the access points can be pointed at Purple, whoever runs them. Your branded sign-in, your questions and your CRM connection stay yours.

Can we ask lounge guests about our loyalty programme?

Yes. Add an optional question at sign-in, as Palm Beach International Airport did when it asked passengers which airline loyalty programmes they belong to and collected 112,451 answers in two months. Answers and consented records go to your CRM through 400+ data connectors.

Do you support Passpoint and OpenRoaming?

Yes. Passpoint profiles connect returning passengers automatically and encrypted from association, with no captive portal, and keep working through iOS 18 MAC address rotation. Through OpenRoaming the same profile works at more than 5 million hotspots worldwide.

What happens when a crew member or ground handler leaves?

When their account is disabled in Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Google Workspace, SCIM revokes their WiFi access automatically. They cannot reconnect, and there is no shared password to change.

Where is passenger data held?

Consent is recorded at sign-in with a full UK GDPR audit trail. Purple has RADIUS regions in the UK, EU and US, is ISO 27001 certified, GDPR and CCPA compliant, and has had zero data breaches since 2012.
